Ohio vintners are proud of their wines and usually want you to start with a light white and work your way through the tasting to a robust red. If you don't care for a particular type of wine, you can skip it and go on to the ones you like. A one-ounce tasting is often enough for two people to get a sip and it is okay to share your tasting.
To get the most out of your visit, don't arrive at a winery with an empty stomach if you plan to taste wines. Most wineries will offer complimentary bread or crackers to cleanse your palate while tasting. Some wineries sell snacks to complement your tasting. Ohio wineries have much to offer in addition to wines, beautiful vineyards, entertainment, picnicking and more. A designated driver can enjoy all of this and take a bottle of wine home.
Know your limit. Be aware that wineries have the obligation to refuse to serve patrons that appear to be intoxicated. Driving with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 is against the law. Remember you are not only responsible for your safety, but the safety of others including your passengers.
